About 1 billion people in the world live in sub-standard living condition. This global problem should be solved by providing dignified and sustainable public housing with the lowest possible price tag. In order to achieve this goal, we need to re-engineer the business process of construction such as using innovative technologies.
Construction projects are usually facing time and cost over-run. Lack of predictably on the quality as well. It is really labour-intensive and inefficient. Construction sites are dangerous. Accident rate is all time higher than manufacturing.
Dr. Behrokh Khoshnevis, professor of Industrial & Systems Engineering and is the Director of Manufacturing Engineering Graduate Program at the University of Southern California (USC), shared his research works which is financed by NASA to public at a TEDx event. He predicts that contour crafting technology could reduce the number of construction labourer, time and cost waste. Please see his presentation at TEDx event.
